The NASSCOM Innovation movement began a few years ago with the conviction that it would be innovation that would power India to global leadership in the IT sector. The launch of the NASSCOM – Boston Consulting Group (BCG) report towards the end of the last financial year on ‘Innovation in the IT and IT Enabled Services industry’ in Bangalore at the end of July demonstrated the industry’s determination to create a new sigmoid of growth for the industry. After successfully using the “value for money” wage arbitrage advantage to get a toe in the door of global multinationals and then making the transition from on site to off shore delivery through the perfection of high quality processes and the ability to migrate technology development and business process management to Indian centers, the third wave of success in this industry may well come from innovation, adding a potential $ 50 billion of new revenues in the next five years.
The tremendous success of the innovation forum of NASSCOM in the last couple of years has got not just innovative startups a place in the sun but also recognized the success of product, process and business model innovation among larger Indian and even multinational players. The commissioning of the study with BCG was in recognition of the fact that the time has come to take instances of successful innovation and build an environment where an entirely new paradigm can be created for all aspiring firms as well as the entire industry.
With the innovation movement having taken firm root in all segments of the industry – the billion dollar club firms and the thousands of startups, the IT Services and BPO firms and the IP creation community and percolating through the industry and companies, the time has come to extend innovation to the creative community of professionals who are the real force behind our successful industry. The vision for the EMERGE community at NASSCOM has been to develop a collaborative platform where new ideas can be created, germinated and nurtured to become path breaking commercial innovations. The concept of community co-creation of intellectual property in which Aikon Labs has been chosen as a worthy community building partner is one of our most ambitious efforts. We are fully behind the effort and look forward to small acorns of ideas become mighty oaks of successful innovation in the near future
